Want to develop invaluable data preparation skills for polymer 3D printing and turn the seemingly impossible into the possible with every build job? Forge your path forward with this certificate program:

  • Create a foundation of expertise in one of the most important, make-or-break parts of the additive manufacturing process — in just six weeks.

  • Optimize the quality and efficiency of your polymer 3D printing operations and improve the speed, stability and safety of each job.

  • Learn to find new and innovative ways to leverage the material qualities of various polymers.

  • Discover how to address challenges for certain applications during data preparation.

  • Interact with a community of fellow learners and receive assistance and feedback from EOS experts.

What will you learn?

Every step of the AM process chain matters, but data preparation is particularly pivotal, as it establishes the parameters that govern all aspects of the build. This certificate program is designed to aid you in mastering data preparation and parameter optimization, enabling you to realize increasingly complex designs as high-quality build jobs.

The certificate program is structured into four distinct phases, which you can complete at your own pace. Each segment contains a blend of learning methods, ranging from e-learning content and webinars to practice tasks and Q&A sessions with EOS experts. Throughout the various phases, you will also have several opportunities to connect with others enrolled in the certificate program.

To start, this course introduces you to EOS hardware — the machine as a whole, its selective laser sintering (SLS) technology and other important features — and how the data preparation process affects its operation. You'll also learn the fundamentals of Materialise Magics and PSW data preparation software as you test your knowledge through several exercises.

The first half of the certificate program continues with an examination of measurements, parameters and the characteristics of polymer material. Then, you have the opportunity to learn by doing and prepare your first build job in Materialise Magics.

In the second half of this course, you'll explore more advanced aspects of data preparation and engage in another, more complicated build job. EOS experts aid the learning process at various stages, including a Q&A session just before your final exam. The certificate program culminates in that exam, which assesses your practical and theoretical understanding of data preparation. After you successfully finish the course, you will receive a certificate confirming your expertise in data preparation for polymer 3D printing. Last but not least, you'll have the opportunity to participate in a live event with EOS experts.

Upon completing this certificate program, participants will be able to:

  • Expertly use EOS polymer 3D printing systems and data preparation software.

  • Leverage understanding of data preparation fundamentals and parameters to practically execute intricate part designs.

  • Know the characteristics and properties of various polymer materials and identify the best polymers for your specific AM needs.

  • Approach challenges that may affect your application and find solutions before they become problems during build jobs or in testing and post-processing.

Course Breakdown

Here is a detailed breakdown of each phase and what it offers:

First, you'll explore how data preparation affects EOS polymer 3D printing technologies, focusing on the overall machine and certain key features like the SLS laser system, recoater and build plate. This phase also introduces you to the Part Screening and Selection process for application identification developed by the Additive Minds team, examines data preparation specialists' interactions with other 3D printer stakeholders and explores the process's influence on part quality. Lastly, you have e-learning sessions and practice tasks for the Materialise Magics and PSW software. You can discuss your results with other learners in the EOS online forums afterward.
In the second phase, you will be introduced to the importance of positioning and orientation to the overall data preparation workflow. Find out how these measurements affect the quality of your build and how to apply Z-compensation in Materialise Magics to account for various issues. You will also experience a webinar devoted to exposure parameters and how they can be applied or tweaked to meet cost, quality or speed requirements. After covering how data preparation must account for various polymer materials' reactions to laser heat, you complete your first major assessment: preparing and evaluating a build job in Materialise Magics. As with the end of Phase 1, you're presented with the opportunity to communicate via the EOS online forum (and encouraged to do so).
The third phase covers data preparation at a much more granular level (befitting the level of understanding you've reached thus far). For example, the first advanced e-learning examines complex issues like beam offset (the distance between the path of the SLS laser beam and the part boundary), which has a major effect on a number of critical parameters. Also, an EOS expert will guide you through the intricacies of practically applying theoretical positioning and orientation measurements. Then, you'll prepare another, more complex build job in the PSW software and must specify appropriate exposure parameters — which can determine a job's success or failure if miscalculated. Finally, EOS experts host a Q&A in preparation for your final exam.
Much of this phase is devoted to the practical test portion of the final exam, which requires you to specify the pros and cons of different orientations. The theoretical test is much shorter but no less complex. If you successfully complete the assessment, you will be provided a certificate confirming your status as a Data Preparation Specialist for polymer 3D printing. The course culminates in a live event with EOS experts.

FAQ

The comprehensive focus of this course on a single intricate issue and the thorough involvement of EOS experts in its webinars and Q&A sessions make it stand head and shoulders above similar certification programs. Its dependence on the learner's interaction — i.e., "learning by doing" in the practice task modules — will also have a positive long-term impact on their data preparation skills.

As specified in the certificate program details, you will need specific software (Materialise Magics, PSW 3.8 and Materialise Build Processor) and EOS Material Sets (PA 2200 and TPU 1301) to begin and complete the course.

This program is best suited to individuals who are already working in additive manufacturing. Prior knowledge of the data preparation process is not required, nor is direct experience with polymer, but any familiarity with either or both will only be beneficial.

We recommend that learners who take this course have a strong technical background and (at least) moderate experience in additive manufacturing. Familiarity with AM-specific software and computer-aided design (CAD) programs is also ideal, though not specifically required.

You can complete this certificate program at your own pace, stopping and starting as needed. In fact, for those who have some additive manufacturing experience but aren't specifically familiar with data preparation, it may be wisest to proceed slowly.

You will be able to download your certification via the program portal after you successfully finish all modules and exams.
